The Hampton History Museum contains an impressive collection. Start your tour in a Kecoughtan Indian longhouse, pass through the hold of a tobacco ship and visit the ruins of the city burned to the ground during the Civil War.

The Hampton History Museum serves to increase the awareness and understanding of the history of Hampton by maintaining an educational and research center for the collection, exhibition, interpretation, preservation and promotion of the vast historic resources of the City.

 

Throughout the year, they also have various Oral History and Second Saturday Family Series for the families and the Front Porch Series for the music lovers. 

 

Admission: $5 adults; $4 children ages 4 – 12, active military, active NASA and seniors; $3 group tours of 10 or more. Free admission for children age 4 and under.

Wedding/Special Events

 

Thank you for your interest in renting our facilities in the Hampton History Museum. Our space is available by reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note the following: 

AVAILABLE SPACE. Consists of the restrooms, great hall, kitchen, and Courtyard. No exhibit areas may be used without additional charge. No wireless or internet access is available. 

FEE SCHEDULE. 

Departments of the City of Hampton: 

During business hours: Free of Charge 

After business hours: $50 per hour 

Deposit required: None 

Civic groups or other non-profit organizations: 

During business hours: $25 per hour 

After business hours: $50 per hour 

Non-refundable Deposit required: $25 - $50 depending on timing of event 

Private weddings, receptions, meetings, corporate functions: 

Initial fee: $90 for first hour 

Additional time: $75 per hour 

Non-refundable Deposit required: $50 within 7 days of booking event 

 

 

The Great Hall 

This elegant space is very versatile and is a great setting for any event. The Great Hall is immediately adjacent to a full catering kitchen and steps away from our beautiful garden patio. The museum is committed to making the space affordable and accessible, and does this in part by requiring renters to implement their own set-up and clean up. 

What kinds of events can I hold at the Museum? 

Wedding ceremonies and receptions, meetings, private and corporate events such as cocktail parties and seated dinners, reunions, memorial services, birthday parties and other celebratory occasions are permitted. Information on special parameters for certain events (such as fundrais-ers) is available. Approval of any rental is at the sole discretion of the museum. 

The museum does not permit rental of its facilities for the following: exhibits; political fundraisers; or religious services (excluding wedding/civil union ceremonies). Events that disrupt or conflict with the primary use of the building as a public history museum will not be permitted.
