Marinas & Piers

Downtown Hampton is defined by its waterfront. Both pleasure boaters and those traveling around the Intracoastal Waterway find safe haven in the marinas dotting Hampton's sheltered harbor. Hampton Road's harbor offers deepwater slips and first-class amenities. All boater’s needs are within walking distance. Follow channel marker 2 to channel marker 20 on the scenic Hampton River. Boaters proclaim Downtown Hampton is “the best kept secret on the Lower Chesapeake Bay”.

The Hampton River
The Hampton River channel is easy to follow and is well marked. On the east shore of the river’s entrance you can see the V.A. Hospital and Hampton University.  Traveling up the Hampton River, Sunset Creek bears off to port and is clearly marked by the junction tower on the north side of the channel and a green day marker “1” on the south side.

The tide ranges about 2 ½ feet, & the current is a negligible ¼ to ½ knot at max flood and ebb. The tree lined shore on the Hampton University side of the river & picturesque Downtown Hampton on the opposite shore offer excellent protection from foul weather.

Downtown Hampton’s Marinas & Piers
The Hampton River and Sunset Creek offer several marinas, including convenient permanent and transient dockage, marine services on site or within walking distance, marine supplies, heads, showers and ice, and close proximity to many other amenities.

The Hampton Public Piers are located next to the Hampton Marina Hotel on the downtown waterfront. These floating transient slips are available for transient dockage.  Customs House Marina is directly in front of the Hampton Marina Hotel and Joys Marina is directly across on the east side of the river. You can take the walkway, which begins at Joy’s, over the Settlers Landing Bridge to get to Downtown Hampton.

Transient boaters can moor at the top of Sunset Creek at Sunset Yachting Center and Dry Storage, which has a floating dock and fuel. Bluewater Yachting Center,  on the southern side of Sunset Creek and the western side of the Hampton River, is a full service marina and yacht yard.

Hampton Public Piers
The Hampton Public Piers is a fully transient facility located within walking distance of Downtown Hampton’s historic district and local attractions.

The Hampton Public Piers was the first marina in the Commonwealth of Virginia to receive Virginia Clean Marina certification.

Bluewater Marina
Bluewater Yachting Center is located in Hampton, VA and maintains more than 200 boat slips for rental. In addition to the marina facility, Bluewater Yachting Center offers two full service yacht yards; a yacht brokerage, Bluewater Yacht Sales; and a restaurant, Surf Rider.
