The best thing is that Fika Coffeehouse and Cafe offers a whole lot more than coffee. It's an attitude, and a way of life! In Swedish, Fika (pronounced fee-ka) is a tradition, a conscious moment that you take to slow down a bit and share good times with friends.

At Fika, located at 5 E Queens Way in Downtown Hampton, Virginia, you can do just that any day of the week! Owners Samantha Thomas, Benjamin Thomas and Iryna Patterson are passionate about three things: coffee, good eats and community. In addition to a full espresso bar, you can order drip coffee, nitro, cold brew, specialty teas or boozy coffee, wine or beer, and an astounding assortment of distinctive menu options that will both excite your taste buds and soothe your spirit.

Food and friendship -- along with coffee -- are the attractions of this unique cafe that's open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and quick snacks from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The down home, old house ambience of this new coffee bar and cafe is a charming departure from the sleek, efficient and impersonal vibe of other quick-stop coffee bars. This is a place where you'll love to linger, a convenient downtown destination you can gather with friend to catch up on news and share good times. That's the spirit embodied by a "Fika moment!"

Breakfast is served all day. Build your own breakfast sandwich with a fried egg and your choice of cheese on your favorite bread, muffin, croissant or bagel. It's served with breakfast potatoes and you can also add meat or additional optional toppings. Opt for a granola parfait with fresh fruit and vanilla yogurt or an Acai bowl with granola, berries, mango and other fruits, topped with toasted coconut flakes and chia seeds.

Lunch is served beginning at 10 a.m., and the varied menu includes a variety of specialty Panini, a jerk chicken salad sandwich, tuna poke bowl or healthy snack choices. Try hummus with toasted points and fresh veggies or house-made bruschetta on crostini. Whether you stop in on your way to work or after a morning of shopping, you'll savor the time you spend at this distinctive new coffee house and gathering spot.

If you come with friends, stay as long as you like to enjoy the company. But, if you come alone, you're sure to meet some new friends and, chances are you'll want to return to Fika again and again.

As the owners attest, it's a tradition worth cultivating! Fika Coffeehouse and Cafe is just one of the new businesses that is rejuvenating Hampton's historic and charming downtown area. Whether Hampton is your home or you're only visiting for a day or two, downtown is the place to be -- to shop, eat, explore, meet friends and enjoy life in all its variety!
