Hampton's newest doughnut shop opened its doors Friday .

Glazed Doughnuts, at 24 Wine Street, sold out of doughnuts just before 11 a.m., with the store's namesake, as well as apple fritters, among the top sellers, said co-owner Brandy Fertitta.

"It was really busy," Fertitta said. "It was more than we expected, which is nice."

They started baking at about 2 a.m. and moved about 1,000 doughnuts that morning, said Fertitta, a former teacher at Smithfield High School.

The shop offers a variety of doughnuts, bagels, pastries and coffee from Rogue Elephant Coffee Roasting Company in Hampton.

"There wasn't anything around here. We saw an empty niche," she said. "We thought it would be nice to be able to walk downtown and grab a doughnut and coffee."

The shop's grand opening will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, and Mayor George Wallace will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
