A few dates have yet to be confirmed, but at this point the series includes performances by national acts such as the Smithereens and "Nashville" star Jonathan Jackson, as well as the current touring lineup of the legendary Motown vocal group the Temptations. Top local acts on the schedule include Roosterfoot, Slapnation and the popular cover band Deloreans.
"We're just really excited about this year's lineup," said Debra Freeman, director of communications and marketing for Downtown Hampton Development Partnership. "We've got some great national acts, including Junkyard Band, which is different because I don't think we've ever had a go-go band here before."
The block party takes place Saturday nights beginning at 6 p.m. Unless otherwise noted in the schedule, the stage and audience area are set up along Queens Way in downtown Hampton, with local vendors lining the grounds. All shows are free.
The concert series is in its 21st year and has become a popular event drawing customers to downtown Hampton businesses.
"Even if they don't know who is scheduled, people know that in the summer you can come to downtown Hampton on a Saturday night," Freeman said. "You can come every weekend and never hear the exact same kind of music twice. It's become a very special event around here."
