History museum hosts talk on Union spy
Preacher. Congressman. Union spy. These are a few of many things that John R. Kelso was before, during and after the Civil War.
Those who find their interest piqued can learn more about Kelso’s life and exploits from William and Mary history professor Christopher Grasso at the Hampton History Museum’s Port Hampton lecture series.
Grasso has edited an edition of Kelso’s Civil War memoir and is in the process of writing a book on the Union Army private and eventual Calvary captain.
Grasso’s hour-long talk on Kelso will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Hampton History Museum. Entry is free for members of the museum and costs $5 for non-members.
